I Love Cats

Kenzo Cap, Vintage Goggles,
Christopher Kane T-Shirt, Lacoste Shorts,
Raf Simons Sneakers

I have a big - more like an enormous - soft spot for cats. I know it's lame; I fall more in the «cat lady» category than the strong and proud german shepherd owner. However, what can I do about it? Probably, embrace my shameful adoration of kitties and felines! It's exactly what I have been doing by visiting a lion refuge park. It's too bad I was not able to take off the number 7 of my bucket list (hold and/or feed a baby lion/tiger/cheetah), still I enjoyed my little road trip through the wine lands to the shelter.

5 Rands

I am sure there is few people outside of southern Africa that wonders what is a Rand. Well folks, it's the currency of this marvellous country of South Africa! To make it simple, it was created at the same as the Republic of South Africa in 1958 and was made to replace the colonial South African pound after independency. The thing you need to know about money here is that wherever you are from the West, you get rich entering the country. Remember when you were a kid and your parents told you that you could go far with 1$? Let me tell you this applies perfectly in a south african context. 1$ is worth about 9ZAR or rands. In that perspective, you would just imagine the prices adapt to the currency, but it does not! After some rough calculations, I estimated as a North American that I am  about 3 times richer in South Africa than I would be home! If this scientific argument isn't convincing enough, let's just say a big juicy and tasty beef steak in a good restaurent is about 90 Rands... Something, I would pay back in Montreal about the same price in canadian money 35-40$ (300 Rands)! All this without confusion about wethe I have horse or donkey in my meal! Nonethless, this advantage of currency applies on everything: housing, transportation, phone and alcohol!

In that mindset, I noticed something when exploring Stellenbosch : the 5 Rand store. It's basically a kind of chain that could be compared to Dollorama in South Africa, but cheaper and crappier. I was amazed by all these chinese scam products such as this hair coloring kit using pictures of Eva Longoria, Claire Danes and Mariah Carey after a little photoshop hair makeover; I am sure they all approved their pictures for that purpose! Who wouldn't! I wish I could have taken more pictures, but the owner kicked me out when he saw I had a camera... I guess he knew himself what he was selling was a scam version of Dr.Dre Beats, Apple and Sony. I should maybe have expressed more how I was fascinated and inspired by his store, but he didn't speak english nor Afrikaans for the little I can speak... Oh well! Got to love South Africa.

 Marc Jacobs Headband

Let's face the truth, I would be lying if I only posted about how amazing everything is down here in Africa. I meet a lot of interesting and new people, I get in touch with many cultures and I have the chance to discuss about issues I never really had to position myself back home. However, I have something on my mind and I can't really express what it is... I am at the point where I start missing what I used to have in the northern hemisphere : a nice house, a loving family, great friends, and a job that made me feel good about myself. I may miss home, but I don't miss the country where I am from, and I have a strong feeling there is something for me to accomplish here in South Africa. I don't know yet what it is, but in the meantime, while waiting for a sign on what I shall discover in Africa, I start to feel a little bit bored. Thanks to the Virgin Activ Gym that welcomes me almost everyday for few hours to kill time! Otherwise, I stay in my room watching the the walls hypnotized by the rather odd grey paint. How can I find myself in that situation, when I am on a full time vacation with sun, beaches and spectacular sceneries? I guess that's the kind of ''second world'' problem.

#SSENSELOVESME

Marc Jacobs Headband, Vth Avenue Shoe Repair Blazer,
Balmain Shirt, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Pants,
Dr. Martens Boots

There is a styling contest going on Instagram right now, and the prize is crazy : 2500$ to spend on www.ssense.com! If you don't already know what Ssense is, let me tell you it's one of the most amazing online store that exists in the moment. From Balmain to Rick Owens, and from Givenchy to Versace, there is everything you want or would want to buy! If I were to win, I would get a Obsedia bag and lots of Philip Lim. I don't get my hopes to high, but, ah, it's good to dream a little bit... Wish me luck!

Souhaitez moi bonne chance!

Stellenbosch University is an amazing place to study. Honestly, what can a student ask more than a everlasting clear blue sky, cheap and good beer and hot chicks everywhere. It is actually disconcerting how everyone seems beautiful here, so I better step up my game while being here. My first class was an Afrikaans language class; it is basically the main teaching language of the university and the most spoken language in the area. It’s super sexy, but very hard to catch up... We will see if eventually ek sal in staat wees om Afrikaans te praat.

On verra si éventuellement ek sal in staat wees om Afrikaans te praat.

I was lucky the stereotypical London winter rain was not happening when I was there; my 12 hours trip into the british capital was just perfect to set me up in a mood of discovery and travelling. It was not my first time, but yet I had the chance to go a bit further in the city; I ended up spending most of the day in Mayfair around New Bond Street. Too bad it was a sunday and that most of the stores I wanted to visit before settling in Africa were closed... London is such an amazing city, and I was lucky this time to watch the sunrise from the City. It was a great step into Europe, even for the few hours I spent wandering in places and streets I did not know. Thinking about it, I just realised that this is the good life. Shit, woke up in London yesterday and found myself in the City near Piccadelly...
